ECOSLO organizes our community to protect San Luis Obispo county’s environment.

Over the past 50 years , ECOSLO has evolved into one of San Luis Obispo County’s leading environmental nonprofits. We organize county-wide events and programs and work closely with San Luis Obispo County and the cities to implement sustainable initiatives. Through various phases of environmental programs & community projects, the organization has remained committed to its mission to preserve and protect the natural resources of San Luis Obispo County through community organizing and advocacy. Here’s a list of some of our current programs and events:

• Beach and Creeks Cleanups: Throughout the year, we host various cleanup events where volunteers pick up trash and recycling discarded on our beaches and in our creeks. These events help to beautify our community while supporting our local environment. Our largest cleanup event of the year is our Creeks to Coast Cleanup where, as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day, we host an annual, data-driven cleanup event at over 40 sites across local parks, beaches, creeks, and neighborhoods across SLO County.
• Green Business: A local certification program as part of California Green Business Network. By providing free, individualized technical assistance, ECOSLO helps businesses save money and reduce their environmental footprint.
• Urban Trees: ECOSLO hosts tree plantings and coordinates ongoing care of newly planted trees in our urban environment to create habitat, enhance communities, and actively work toward natural climate solutions.Through education, advocacy, and community building, ECOSLO protects the natural environment and environmental health of San Luis Obispo County. We support renewable energy, energy conservation and efficiency, sustainable agriculture, green building and the local economy to promote sustainable economic development, protection of agricultural lands and open space, social equity, environmental justice, and protection of our natural environment.
